MUTHUH's RIDES - Sturgis '06

Introduction:

August 01 - 20, 2006

Right around October of last year, Cuzzin' Sam and I started talking about a trip to Sturgis. Well, OK - actually I was talking about needing a nap after our last ride, and Cuz was rappin about his dream to go to Sturgis. I was thinking about a cross-country ride as my last long ride before hangin' up the boots. A recent diagnosis of a severely degenerative disk in my lower back and increasing arthritis in my fingers - I suspect from all the cold, wet, hot days on the bike combined with hundreds of thousands of miles gripping the handlebars in those conditions.

We both started asking around - originally settled on he and I, along with Bulldog and Tequila John going out. In short time, we had several others wanting to go, bringing the numbers up to nine bikes and five of the wives joining us making 14 people.

By Mid-June we were down to 13 people... one had to bail because Uncle Sam had other plans for him. Something about active Duty Military somethin' or other... We'll spill a couple beers for ya Sarge...

So...between August 1st and the 20th, we took a farewell ride to Sturgis and beyond. Me and 12 others on 8 bikes. Some of the girls flew out to go on parts of the ride, too.

The Usual Suspects:

MUTHUH and KIM

<<<
Yours truly and Mrs. Muthuh, Road Captain and Travel Agent extraordinaire. Kim joined us when we got to Rapid City.

>>>
The Instigator of this ride and long-time riding buddy, Cuzzin Sam kept us in stitches around the campfire. Sonya gets her nickname from this incredible penchant for leaving shit behind. I've been to Daytona a couple times with them and several mountain rides. Cuz'll rode out of South Carolina, Loosie joined the girls on their flight to Rapid City.

CUZ and LOOSIE

BULLDOG and RAE

<<<
Dog and Rae hail from the coast of North Carolina, is a pretty good Road Captain hisself - well, maybe Road Lieutenant. No tellin' what her hair color's gonna be come August. Dog had, I think, the longest ride of us all.

>>>
Riding out of my home town with me, Monk just recently got tagged with his handle after certain anal-retentive OCD habits surfaced on our last ride. I can't remember what it was now, but it musta been funny. Jen is known to her closest riding companions as Angel, but as we adhere to the concept of "What happens on a ride STAYS on a ride" I can't tell you why. Angel flew out to Rapid City, too.

MONK and ANGEL

YANK and NANCY

<<<
As the handle hints, these are our token yankee friends. Kim and I met and rode with them on our Adirondak Ride a couple years ago and we've stayed in touch ever since. Yank met us as we rode through Ohio, and Nancy will flew out to Rapid City.

Before this ride, Jim had yet to do anything stupid, so was handleless in the beginning - within a couple days, though, we found the perfect riding handle for him and it seemed to stick for the rest of the trip. Read the story to find out what it was. Riding out of North Carolina, his lady is going through some medical shit at the moment and rode solo this time 'round. We all spilled a few beers for Moochie on our trip.

JIM

TEQUILA JOHN

<<<
... or TJ for short, this guy can make a killer Margarita. Awww, hell, it's just some Cuervo and a 'rita mix, but he'll have it mixed and poured before we're off our bikes. TJ rides out of Eastern Tennessee. We've ridden with his Ol' Lady, "CK", and we all insisted she stay home for Sturgis, cause we'd never make it west of the Mississippi due to her shopping addictions... well, that and she thinks I'm an asshole. Probably the most intuitive of the bunch, doncha think?

>>>
Qwaz and I have been yackin on emails for 5 yrs before I finally met him in late June in the NC mountains. He can dish out the shit as fast as we doled it out, so we got along fine. Qwaz also remains solo this trip, so we'll have to keep a close eye on him.
